Kid-nap Day

It's been awhile, but I'm back. Better than ever? Ya you could say so... My laptop broke, but I'm getting a new one at tax time so no worries. Christmas was great, lots of box-sets!! Mia got me a $50 gift card to Halcyon (yarn mecca).....
Today was my "kid-nap" day. What is a kid-nap day, you night be asking yourself. Well let me tell you....... Kid-nap day is when my two best friends (Amy and Des) planed a yarn crawl up the southern coast of Maine! The purpose of a kid-nap day and not an outing? This was so I can get the other yarn I need for MY WEDDING!!!!!
We started with Grace Robinson Co. in Freeport. A little gem of a place, that I will definitely be stopping at again. Our next stop was Purl Diva's. Let me tell you, Miss Purl Diva is a really cool lady, who knew about as much about knitting and yarn as she is nice (which is A LOT!) Her store was rich with great yarns, a warm and cozy atmosphere, and a very sweet dog. I got the Rebecca #32 issue and a really sweet Ravelry pin (Where my stitches at?). Also a new ravelry friend!
From there we made a stop at The Knitting Experience Cafe. This is where I found the yarn for Briana's wedding sweater. (modified stardust from knitty) Cascade Sierra that is in the prettiest soft amethyst purple. This is the color that I have been waiting to jump out at me (she will look so sweet!) This knitting stop was equally as great, in a different way (if that makes any since). It was bright and cool, great couch too. The girl behind the counter... another new ravelry friend!! I also bought a green tea biscotti for Mia (green tea freak). And they had the recycled fish food Lantern Moon bags, oh I want one!
From there, lunch!! Wild Oats.... turkey BLT on tomato herb bread...yum yum yum... also a really yummy pumpkin cream cheese roll.
Then HALCYON!!!!! Well well well where should I start? Two skeins of white gemstone 100% silk. For my wedding shrug! The sublime book 600, the Knit Closely calender, a Lantern Moon post-it holder, and a button for Mia's sweater!! The funny thing is when I payed I had my Celtic tote made with Brown Sheeps Pride in Kiwi, so the funny thing is the lady behind the counter was pricing a counter full of... Brown Sheeps Pride in Kiwi....... just funny to me I think.
What a great Day!!!!

Stitch n' Pitch?

So I was at work the other day and my friend Amy (vintagescrapsandrags ) and I were talking about knitting (what else really?)..... It truly was a great day... The new Inter-Weave Knits had just come out...Seriously knitters porn if truth be told, but anyway.... So here we are talking about the new patterns and articles and such... then a thought hits me...We were talking about the designers as if they were sports all-stars or something...
"Hey did you see that new sock pattern from Ann Budd?" or
"Check out the complex simplicity of Veronik Avery?"
They truely are all-stars in my book... I mean Veronik Avery hits a grand slam like every time she creats something anything!
And Please people don't even get me started on Ann Budd and Norah Gaughn AMAZING!!!! For me they are every day house hold names. I hope that I am not the only one.
It's crazy that a "craft" has turned into a super power. I was looking somewhere (I really don't remember) and I saw something called a "Stitch n' Pitch" stitchnpitch.com where you go to a baseball game and knit! It's huge!
I wonder if your grandmother while knitting your baby booties every thought that one day you would be talking about designers like they were players or even being part of a stitch n' pitch...

Let me know what you think...

Knitting hiatus

Well folks I'm back...Did you miss me? Anyway I'm back maybe better than ever? I'm not quite sure of that, but anyway... What have I been up to you might be asking yourselves (probably not, but I'm going to tell you anyway hehe)

I am STILL working on the sweater from hell... Hey a great "B" movie "The intarsia that wouldn't die" http://www.interweaveknits.com/preview/2006_winter.asp (it's the rambling rose)
...Is it hard? No it's not. It is terribly annoying I'm at the point of the yoke where it is just about to curve over my shoulders and I can't even look at it.......
I finished 3 wonderful books that everyone should check out no matter how old you are: The Chicks with Sticks the first and second ones (the third is coming out in October!)
Knit One, Kill Two this one was awesome!!! Literally it was the last 15 pages when you find out who did it...I am on the second one now (Needled to Death) I'm only 100 pages into it and it is really really good. Bonus... I went to Good Will and found the third in the series for only .99! How cool it that?!?
Ever the procrastinator I am in search for a light cotton tank top for my Grammy's birthday. The rambling rose will never be finished!!!

So this weeks question.......
Are any of you out there having troubles with their projects? Is it something that you can't even look at you are so annoyed... Let me know, and be assured that there will be sympathetic words of encouragement
Thanks for listening to me babble,
Ruth
